This is my grade 8 portfolio for the year 2010 and 2011. So far my grade 8 year was both fun and frustrating, fun because it was interesting learning new topics especially leaning units in math I never learned about. It was also frustrating because we where given many homeworks each from different topics. Although it was frustrating I enjoyed it. Two things I am good at in grade 8 are listening to instruction and cooperating in class. Two things I need to improve on are giving my homework in time and also not to procrastinate. My goals for the next 6 weeks of school are give my work in time and don't procrastinate on my homework.

Term 1 Reflection
In term one we learned many subjects including ratios, rate, proportion, pythagoras, and many others. Learning about ratios, rate, and proportion was a lot easier with the help of a foldable. A foldable is a folded up paper that includes mathematical informations such as diagrams, definitions, and examples of the unit, the purpose of this is to have everything we learned put in short sentences for us to look back to. Having a foldable made it easier for me to learn and made it more fun. Term one was also fun because in the end of the unit we made a video of what we have learned using an original sesame video and remaking the lyrics into ratio, rate, and proportion. My group Lizelle, Olivia, and me had a lot of fun remaking the elmo song into our version. Though term one was a good term my goal for term 2 is to have a better grade and to finish all my homework on time.
Part of Term 2 and term 3 we learned the topic Integers, Integers for me is quite hard because of minus questions. For me + and - are harder than multiplication and division because of the sign rule which is......
The unit test for Integers was a bit hard for me and I received a low mark, some of the questions I got wrong where mostly about - integers but other than that I enjoyed answering the questions on the test and also in the textbook. Some questions on the test I got wrong are the pictures at the bottom, the pictures include the question, a sentence why I got it wrong, and the correct answer.

GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION TASK/INTENT/CRITERIAThroughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components:Subject:TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment? For this assignment I was asked to make a definition card about Simile, In this definition card I wrote a definition of what a simile is and also an example, I also included a picture of what my example was which is "The sunset was as beautiful as the glimmering blue ocean." INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?I completed this assignment for many reasons. First so I can get a better understanding of what a simile is. Second so I know what a simile is and also make a simile and undrstand what i am doing.CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment? For this assignment I needed to know what a simile is. To get a good mark a needed to include a definition of simile and example and also a diaghram. NEXT STEPS: I now know what a simile is.
I can make a simile.
For this assignment I was asked to make a poster about Cro-magnon people, their tools, the food they ate, how they hunt and gather food supplies, and also their shelter. INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? There are several reasons why I completed this assignment. first, this assignment helped me comprehend visually how the cro-maagnon lived. Also this assignment helped me to create a visual organizer which is one way of representing your idea. Finally this assignment helped to prepare me for the unit test by serving as a study guide of cro-magnon daily life.CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment? For this assignment I needed to know about Cro-magnon and what they do in their life. NEXT STEPS: I now know a lot of information about cro-magnon
I have a visual of what they do
I can make a poster of a cro-magnon and include all the information I learned

GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION TASK/INTENT/CRITERIAThroughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components:Subject:TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment? For this assignment I was asked to make a cuneiform tablet using clay and shaping it into a square shape, then I was asked to write cunieforms which are letters created by MesopotamiansINTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? I am completing this assingment for a few reasons, first so I can see and undestand what scribes( people in the past who write letters for kings) do. Second reason is to see the dificulties of being a scribe and learning a bit of cunieform letters. My third reason of why I am completing this assignment is to also see how fun making cunieforms are by writting on the clay and putting it inside a kiln. CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment? - learn a few cunieform letters - learn about mesopotamia and scribes - making it as neat as possible NEXT STEPS: I can now make a cunieform tablet by using the few cunieform letters I learned I now know informations about scribe including Mesopotamia I know a bit of cunieforms letters
